Mrs. Richards' Reports from Room 137

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
On Friday, a leprechaun made a quiet appearance by putting gold coins in everyone's supply box.
The children were looking for leprechauns all day!

Congratulations to the 2 students in our classroom to to get Math Awards and gift certificates to Baker's Square.
Rolin Mane for highest Math score on MAPS and Jaylen Barron for the most improved math score.

Here's the scoop for this week!  BOOK FAIR: Monday March 18-21st. 9-3pm
                                                      Wednesday March 20 is Family Night   6-8pm.
                         *  COIN CHALLENGE to raise Money for Classroom Books
                                      Monday:  Pennies
                                      Tuesday: Silver Coins
                                      Wednesday:  Dollars

Inquiry: Students will write some space inferences about the moon, sun, and the earth. They will complete their acrostic poem activity.

Math: Students will do measuring using various objects.

Writing: Students are doing their "expert" writing.... informational.

Here is what we are focusing on this week.

Literacy/ Inquiry: We will log new learning about the sun and the moon. Last week we did research in the computer lab using the programs: brainpop and pebblego. The children love going to these websites.

Math: Students are learning how to use a number line to find a missing addend. We will be learning how to measure using various objects.

Writing: Students will write about topics that they are an expert on.

Mrs. Richards' Reports from Room 137

Our All School Dr. Seuss celebration on Friday March 1st.was such a hit!
The children did such a wonderful job leading the Fish meeting. Everyone had a part even introducing the mayor of West Allis, Dan Devine. Here are some highlights for another exciting week!

Literacy/Inquiry: We are learning about the sun and moon and how they affect the earth.

Math: We are learning how to tell time to the hour and to count the minutes after the hour. We are learning to use a number line and to count on to find the missing addend. We are reviewing 2-D shapes and how to cut them to show fractions.

Writing: We are learning to be experts and to write about what we know.

****  Friday is our Pinkalicious field trip. Remember to send a bag lunch.
